Crathes School Swimming
Club
In October 1987 Crathes School PTA set up a swimming club
for all the children at the School and their younger brothers
and sisters who are in their pre-school year.
This club is for all the children at the school and their
younger brothers and sisters. The Club meets once a week during
term time at Banchory Academy Pool. In addition, as Banchory
Pool is very shallow, the club usually arranges several sessions
each year at Aboyne Pool to give the children deep water experience.
It is always intended that the club should be fun for the
children and to encourage them to develop their skills, the
club uses the A.S.A.'s award scheme, whereby the children
can work for distance, skill and survival badges.
All the teaching and the running of the club is done on a
voluntary basis and any parent who would like to offer their
services and assist in the running of the club, should feel
free to come forward. All parents of children swimming at
the Club may be asked to assist on a rota basis.
Quest Club
Quest Club is held once a week at lunch time from 1.00-1.30pm
for pupils in P3-7 who wish to take part. Pupils learn about
Christianity through listening to Bible stories, singing songs,
participating in discussions and generally having fun.
Football
The school participates in the Mid Deeside Small Schools League
playing against teams from the following schools:- Drumoak,
Finzean, Maryculter West, Netherley, Strachan, Woodlands and
two teams from the Banchory Boys Club.
There are three teams involved with the 'A' team results recorded
in a league format. The 'B' and 'C' team results are not recorded
as some schools do not have a B or C team.
Boys and girls from Primary 3 to Primary 7 can come along
to the training sessions. The dates of these are notified
to parents in writing and are generally held on the school
football field or the 'all-weather' pitch in Banchory.
Teams
The school is divided into three teams named after birds,
Eagle, Merlin and Osprey. The children gain points throughout
the school year for a range of activities including general
behaviour, consideration of others, sporting success and for
achieving a high personal standard in any aspect of the school
curriculum.
New Entrants
Children starting school for the first time will be invited
to the school on a number of occasions during the pre-school
year, including the Christmas Party. After the Easter break,
they are invited to spend some time in school with children
who will be in the same class and to get to know the staff.
This is usually one afternoon per week for several weeks.
When children start school in August
they will attend in the mornings only for the first few weeks
to enable them to get used to the different routine.
