There are seven members on Crathes
School Board – four parents, one staff member and two
community representatives - in addition, the Board employs a
clerk to assist with Board administration matters. The head
teacher and the local councillor, also attend Board meetings
to advise and guide the other members on certain issues. There
are four Board meetings held each year, usually in September,
November, February and May and parents/carers are encouraged
in advance to propose any items for the agenda or communicate
with parent members any views on issues which they feel should
be discussed by the School Board. The draft minutes of Board
meetings are displayed on the notice board at school and copies
of final minutes are available on request.
Particularly in a small school like Crathes, the Board has an
important role to play in partnership with the school and Aberdeenshire
Council in shaping and monitoring policies on a wide range of
topics. In recent years, the Board has been closely involved
in initiatives on traffic safety, planning and funding the new
school community library and the introduction of “Golden
Time” as well as strongly promoting and representing “small
school” interests at Council level. In 2002, the Board
supported the Head teacher and school staff during the statutory
School Inspection and congratulate them on achieving a very
commendable report from HM Inspector of Schools.
Members of the Board are elected usually for a four-year period
and vacancies arise on a regular basis annually in November.
Please do consider standing for election when the opportunity
arises – Board members can make a very worthwhile contribution
to improving the education of Crathes school children now and
in the future.
